Our Story
South Shore 74 began with a love for the North Carolina coast.
Kelli and Troy are both North Carolina natives who spent years traveling from Raleigh to Topsail Island and Surf City for vacations, weekend getaways, and time on the water. Like so many people who visit the island, they were drawn to its quiet beauty, relaxed pace, and the feeling that life slows down just enough when you are near the water.
WHo We Are
Kelli and Troy
In 2020, Kelli and Troy took a meaningful step toward making Surf City a bigger part of their lives by purchasing a home on South Shore Drive. What began as a coastal retreat eventually became something more. In 2024, after Kelli stepped away from her career in fiber optic cable installation, they made the decision to move to Surf City full time.
Living on the island gave them the chance to experience Topsail in a completely new way. It was here that they discovered eFoiling — the unique feeling of gliding silently above the water, taking in the natural beauty, wildlife, and open views of the Intracoastal Waterway without the noise and rush of a traditional boat or jet ski.
After Troy transitioned from ownership in an industrial resinous flooring company, the two began thinking seriously about how to share that same experience with others. What started as
something they personally loved became the foundation for a new local business built around instruction, exploration, and the beauty of the island.
From their home on South Shore Drive, and from their shared love of Surf City, South Shore 74 was born.
Our goal is simple: to give guests a safe, memorable, and truly unique way to experience Topsail Island — not just from the shore, but from above the water.
Topsail Island & Surf City, NC
Topsail Island is one of North Carolina's best-kept secrets — a 26-mile barrier island off the coast of Pender County, split between the laid-back towns of Surf City and Topsail Beach. The crowds are thinner here, the water stays warm well into fall, and the pace of life matches the tide.
With calm sound-side channels on one side and open Atlantic water on the other, it's one of the most naturally perfect stretches of coastline on the East Coast to learn to eFoil. Flat water, warm temps, and that particular light that only happens when the sun hits the Carolina coast just right.
